The School

AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

We try to ensure that each child settles happily and that each pupil has a part to play in the School. We provide a Catholic Christian family atmosphere in which individual children can develop their full potential spiritually, morally, intellectually and socially. We hope to achieve this through teaching and example, by showing and encouraging respect for each other and by developing good relationships both within the school and beyond. We consider ourselves to be an open, welcoming school to parents, families and all those concerned with our children.

The School is very much part of the parishes of St Edmund and St Thomas of Canterbury and the Waterloo Community and we encourage the children to participate in their parish devotions and local activities. Many of the activities of the School depend on the support of the parents and we encourage their interest and involvement in their children's education. High standards of work, behaviour and respect for others are expected at all times.

St Edmund's & St Thomas' School aims to be a place where the Gospel values of our Lord Jesus Christ are taught, lived and experienced, where prayer and celebration are integral to life and where religious growth and development are stimulated.

Our aims are:

  • To offer a broad and balanced curriculum intended to provide a similar range of learning experience for all pupils.
  • To develop strong links with the home, the community and the parishes which provides preparation for the pupils entry into the wider community.
  • To provide a welcoming, caring and safe environment, where children can develop self respect, a sense of individual worth and are able to co-operate with and show consideration of others.
  • To foster independent learning
