World Nursery Rhyme Week

Lesson: Communication, Language and Listening

We learnt  a new rhyme every day fro 5 days. You can listen to them at the bottom of the page and sing them again.

On Monday the children learnt Bobby Shafto's Gone to sea. We painted a sea scape and made boats and sailed them on the pond in the garden. The children enjoyed dressing up as pirates, building ships and finding treasure!

On Tuesday the rhyme was Wind the Bobbin Up- a great favourite. We built bobbin towers, wound our own bobbin up and printed with bobbins.

Wednesday was a lovely day and we sang Hickory Dickory Dock= the children loved learning some new verses. They made a clock each and looked at the numbers. We even made a large clock outside to walk around

Thursday- the children listen to the rhyme Lavenders Blue- this was new to them and took a while for us to begin to sing it to the music. The Nursery smelt of lavender all day. The children used lavender play dough and made lavender bags. They really loved  spooning the lavender into pots too.

Friday- We invited our parents into class to listen to the rhymes we had sung, we even managed to try a new rhyme too- Old King Cole. We dressed up as nursery rhyme characters and had great fun guessing who we were.

We had a fabulous week learning new rhymes and have decided that we want to learn lots of new ones soon!
