Year 6S 2017 - 2018

Miss Sharrock

Hello everyone!

We are into our second term of the school year now, and as busy as ever!

The children are still studying World War 2, and will hapefully have a trip to the museum to look forward to in the next couple of weeks.

We had a very successful All Saints Mass on 1st November, a big thank you to our lovely readers for representing our school so well.

We ended our hockey PE sessions with a Y5/6 tournament on the last day of half term, much fun was had by all! We are now learning how to play American Football, something which we are finding very different to our football!

Our class novel is Goodnight Mister Tom, a classic which is read in most primary schools across the country.  Ask your children to tell you what they are enjoying about the story.

During our RE lessons, we are looking at Vocations and Commitment.  We are delighted to have some parents in this week, to talk to the children about their chosen career paths.  Over the next couple of weeks, we will be speaking to Fr John about his decision to join the preisthood.

In maths, our focus is still problem solving and reasoning, as we can incorporate this into each area of the curriculum.  Keep an eye out on future newsletters, as we will be inviting parents in for some maths classes of their own!

Hello! Welcome to the Year 6 page. I hope everyone had a lovely summer holiday and is looking foward to the Autumn term in their final Year at St Edmund's and St Thomas' Primary School.

A copy of our curriculum map for the coming year will be handed to you at the parent's meeting on Thursday 28th September.  Our first History topic is World War 2, so any research that the chlidren do at home would greatly benefit their progress in class.

Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday, so please make sure you child has the correct PE kit in on those days.

Children should be reading every night for at least 20minutes.  They can do independent reading, but if you could please hear them read aloud also, to check their understanding and fluency.  Thank you!
