Mrs Sugden

Love, Learn and Live like Jesus.

Our School Mission Statement;

"I have come that they should have life and have it to the full." (John 10:10)

Inspired by the teachings of Christ, St Edmund's and St Thomas' Catholic Primary school encourages and guides our pupils and all our school community to have a strong sense of service, love and compassion. In this way, they are encouraged to develop a vision for what they want to achieve with a zest for living life to the full.

It's hard to believe but it's that time of the year again - the beginning of a new school year. Hope you all had a good summer, Welcome back!

  This is such a busy term as we think about new teachers and students to meet, new books to read, new activities and concepts to master, etc… and I look forward to you sharing in all of these exciting times.

   Our class has PE on Thursdays, every child should have a full PE kit in school at all times. This is then taken home for the holidays to be washed.

   Each day the children take part in Read Write Inc. lessons, which focus on spelling. They then take part in reading focussed sessions. The class has English and Maths lessons ever day and then take part in a variety of lessons across the week including science, ICT, geography, history, design and technology and art. Our theme for this term is The Stone Age.

RE we follow Come and see

   We started the year by foucsing on our school mission. We will contiune to carry out our mission in all that we do. Our first   topic is Homes, this focuses on God's Vision for every family. We look at the life of the Holy Family and find out about the advice offered by St Paul in his letters about living together as a family. We think about how we can follow some of this advice. we will then spend a week looking a Judaism and then move on to our Called topic and end the term with our Gift topic. From time to time your child will be asked to plan and lead a collective worship.

Please keep an eye out for out parents' letter with more information and tasks the you could complete at home. This year we have also introduced ,'The Wednesday Word,' this is a great resource that will help your child understand the scripturein mass. It links our parish, school and home together working in partnership.

Homework

   Each week the children are given homework that includes reading, writing, maths and spelling. We sometimes give topic based homework that may be a project to complete. All children need to learn their times tables. By the end of year 3 the children should know by heart  the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times table to 12x 12. Each week they will be given a times table to practice with  a test on a Friday along with a spelling test, a list of all the spellings thay need to know by the end of year 4 can be found below. Please spend a little time helping your child to learn their tables- remember they need to be able to recall them quickly!

   Please come and see me if you have any concerns or support.

Thanks again for your continued support.   Mrs Sugden
