Mrs Greaney

Love, Learn and Live like Jesus.

Autumn Term

All the children have settled in well to the new school year and they have been working very hard. Here is a little bit of information about the what we will be doing over the next few weeks.

RE

* Beginnings - The story of Creation

* signs and symbols - Baptism

* Preparations - preparing for Christmas through Advent

Wednesday Word

Every Wednesday your child will bring home the ‘Wednesday Word’. This is a link between home, school and parish and shares the Sunday Gospel. There are also some fun activities that you can share with your child related to the Gospel.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. If there is anything you can send in from home (photos, books, baptism candles etc) to support your child's learning with any of our topics please feel free!

English

This term we are exploring the theme of space. We will be using role play and drama to  ingnite the children's imaginations and help them to produce some really great pieces of writing. The children will be asked to write letters, diary entries and short narratives with a focus on using correct puntuation and interesting vocabuary. The children will be learning about verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs and will be identifying these different types of words in sentences.

After half term we will be following a whole school History focus about The Titanic.

Maths

This term we are focusing on place value, addition and subtraction and money.

Weekly homework will be based around the mathematical concepts that the chidren will have been focusing on that week.

You will have recently received a login for Times Tables Rockstars, this is an online times table game accessed at (https://ttrockstars.com/login) or can be downloaded to your phone or tablet as an app.

This same login can be used to play the online Numbots games which focus on number bonds.

Reading

Please try to read with your child as much as you can.

 * read different types of books – fiction, non fiction, instructions, magazines, comics – it doesn’t just have to be their school reading book.

 * talk to them about what they have read asking them questions to check they are understanding what they are reading.

 * encourage them to ask questions too, especially if they come across a word they don’t understand.

 * your child has a school reading book which will be changed once a week on a Thursday. Please ensure their reading book is broght to school everyday.

Water bottles

We ask that if you send your child to school with a water bottle then please ensure that it is clearly named and is filled with water rather than juice.

Children are provided with a piece of fruit everyday. If you wish to send in an extra snack for break time please ensure it is a healthy snack such as a piece of fruit, vegetable sticks or toast. Cereal bars, crisps or are not allowed.
