Teacher- Mrs Tyrrell,

Teaching Assistant Mrs Evans

Welcome back everyone! I am excited for the term ahead, I hope you are too smiley

I am always available on the door in the morning and after school if you need a chat or have an queries.

We have lots of exciting work planned, I will try to post as much information and photos as often as I can.

Literacy- This half term we will be looking at Walking through the jungle by Julie Lancome and Little Red Riding Hood. We will get to know the story, act it out, retell it, create a storymap, rewrite the story and create our own versions. We have been working very hard on presentation and letter size.

Maths- We have looked again at addition and subtraction. We have started place value looking at numbers upto 50. We have been looking closely at what we already know.. how can we explain this to our partner trying to use our mathematical language to explain things in more detail. We try to speak in full sentences example: Place Value 21- there are 2 tens and 1 one altogther there is 21 (not just saying 21) We could also say 21 is the Whole number, 20 is part and 1 is a part.

We are still looking closely at our number bonds to 10 and how we can use this knowledge to help us with our bonds to 20.

They love this game try it out! https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

RE- Our current topic is Special people. We have been looking closely at people who help us in school, in church and out in the community. Our next 2 topics are meals and change. Change is our lovely Easter topic.

Art- Last  week we started to look at palm drawings (have a look on youtube). Try it out, it is harder than it looks. We are starting to look carefully at what we are axctually drawing, what shape will I need for that, shall I use pencils? felts? crayons? etc. We will also make chinese lanterns, paint the different signs whilst  learning about Chinese new year.

Homework- Homework like last term is given out every Monday. (Once complete please remind your child to put it in the homework box).

Reading Books- Reading books are changed once a week on a Friday. I have a very competitive class this year and we are all working hard to read as much as we can to move up a stage :) This is lovely to see. We have been talking about once we have read a book, we read it again to familiarise ourselves with it and fully understand what the text is telling us. Once finished please talk to your child about what has happened, discuss the characters, the settings etc. Repetition of reading the same book several times, benefits the children, helping them to apply their reading skills. If you are unsure of what to do when they have finished their reading book please ask me and I am more than happy to assist you with this.

PE-  Pe will take place on a Thursday morning with Coach Rose. (Pe bags to be in school at all times please).
